Marsha,
I will also say that the thought that “Chevron is our city” might be (I stress “might be”) part of the problem. I won’t tell Northrup and Boeing and Raytheon and DirecTV and all the other companies that contribute 90% of our general fund revenue that our Chamber feels that way. Doesn’t the Chamber represent all of its members and not just one? I would like to talk to you about it and see if through conversation and the sharing of ideas we can find alignment.
I do know that the ties and commitment run deep with Chevron. However, that shouldn’t justify a tax burden that is the absolute lowest for all of CA refineries by almost 100%. Should it?
I have not made anything personal on this issue, and neither has anyone on the Council, that I know of. But, the personal attacks last night coming from Chevron and supporters were astounding to me. I think Chevron is a fine company and so are it’s representatives. Just because people disagree doesn’t mean that they have to demonize the other person. Have a great holiday, and I look forward to speaking with you when return.
Doug

Eric, Bill & Doug,
I’m on a toll road in Oklahoma in the middle of driving the family to Indiana for the holidays. We’ve been on the road for 3 days due to the nasty weather in New Mexico and emails on my iPhone are almost continuous with happenings in El Segundo. You all aren’t going to have time to wrap presents with all this going on…
I’m disappointed with the Chevron acreage tax proposal but want to make sure I completely understand the issue. During the last several hundred miles I have thought through it over and over and come to the conclusion I must be missing something. I want to make sure I’m educated about the situation as I am being asked to give my input from several people. Is it possible to have a copy of Doug’s Power Point presentation emailed to me?
I know the three of you want what is best for our City but I say that with the thought that Chevron “is” our City. Their ties and commitment to El Segundo run deep. I can’t help but think there is a more constructive and less divisive way to accomplish an equitable solution to these challenges.
Thanks for your time. If you could email the presentation to me, that would be great…and help fill up the remaining 700 miles.
Thanks,
Marsha
