Note by Michael D. Robbins on March 23, 2012:
I asked El Segundo Councilwoman Suzanne Fuentes about this VCF file with her name on it that Doug Willmore sent to Los Angeles Times reporter Jeff Gottlieb, who wrote propaganda hatchet job articles attacking Chevron and Councilman Carl Jacobson. Fuentes explained it as follows.
The VCF file was a phone/address book file containing Councilwoman Suzanne Fuentes’ contact information, including her private work phone number.
Doug Willmore provided Councilwoman Suzanne Fuentes’ work phone number to L.A. Times Reporter Jeff Gottlieb, against Fuentes’ direction to not give her private work phone number to anyone.
When Gottlieb called Fuentes at work, Fuentes asked how he got her private phone number, and he refused to tell her.
When Fuentes asked Willmore if he gave Gottlieb her private work phone number, he claimed he did not, but this email from Willmore to Gottlieb proves otherwise.
KCET SoCal Connected “Small Town Big Oil” TV show assistant producer Lata Pandya also called Fuentes at her private work phone number. When Fuentes asked Pandya how she got her private work phone number, she claimed it was public record, which was not true. Doug Willmore must have given both KCET and the L.A. Times Councilwoman Suzanne Fuentes’ private phone number to promote his Chevron Shakedown, and then he lied when confronted about it by Fuentes.
From what I understand, based on observations and information from multiple sources, this is one of many examples of deceit and dishonesty exhibited by Doug Willmore over a long period of time. It appears that his dishonesty has cost the city of El Segundo many millions of unnecessary dollars per year because he followed the direction of Mayor Eric Busch and Mayor Pro Tem Bill Fisher rather than a majority of the City Council when negotiating the City Employee union contracts in secret, and I believe without the City Attorney present to ensure he was protecting the interests of the City and following the direction of the City Council majority.
The El Segundo firefighter and police unions gave Mayor Eric Busch and Mayor Pro Tem Bill Fisher thousands of dollars in campaign support and Busch and Fisher gave the unions many millions of dollars per year extra in wildly excessive and unsustainable salaries, benefits, and pensions.
